Simple & Intuitive

Kids Timer App — 3 Simple Steps

No accounts. No tutorials. No complications. Tokimo is so intuitive that children aged 3 and up figure it out by themselves.

1

Choose Your Activity

Tap on an activity type — Homework, Brushing Teeth, Cleanup, Bedtime, or create your own. This helps Tokimo track which habits your child is building and organizes their stats beautifully.

💡 Tip: For younger kids, just tap "Other" and start — they can explore activity labels as they grow more comfortable with the app.

2

Set the Timer Duration

Use the quick-select buttons (1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes) for common tasks, or dial in any custom time using the number picker. The large, bold digits make it easy for children to set independently.

1 min – Short tasks 2 min – Brushing teeth 5 min – Reading break 10 min – Homework block
3

Personalize Your Timer

This is the fun part! Tap the settings icon to choose:

  • Timer Style: Spiral, Circular, or Water Drop
  • Animated Character: Fox, Rabbit, Dog, Crab, and more
  • Background Scene: Ocean, forest, space, and many more
  • During-Timer Sound: 10 playful melodies to choose from
  • Completion Sound: The celebration fanfare when time's up
4

Press Start & Go!

Hit the big green Start button and the countdown begins. The animated character cheers your child on while the visual timer counts down in a way that's instantly understandable — even without being able to read a clock.

During the timer, kids can pause if needed or restart. Parents can adjust settings on the fly without interrupting the flow.

Celebrate & Track Progress

When time is up, a fun celebration animation plays and the activity is automatically logged. Over time, Tokimo builds a picture of your child's daily routines — completed tasks, streaks, and total time — that you can review in the Statistics screen.

📊 Did you know? Children who track their habits with visual feedback are 3× more likely to build lasting routines, according to behavioral research on habit formation in young children.

The Science

Why Visual Timers Actually Work

It's not just fun — there's real psychology behind why visual timers are so effective for children.

🧠

Concrete Time Concept

Young children can't abstract "15 minutes" — it means nothing. But seeing a colorful arc shrink to nothing? That they understand instantly and intuitively.

😌

Reduces Anxiety

Knowing exactly how long something will last — especially for children with ADHD or autism — dramatically reduces resistance and meltdowns during transitions.

🏆

Intrinsic Motivation

Beating the timer becomes a game. Kids are motivated to finish their task before time runs out — turning chores and homework into personal challenges.

Pro Tips

Get the Most from Tokimo

Let your child choose their own character+
Children are far more engaged when they feel ownership. Let your child pick their favorite animal and background — even if it changes every day! The act of personalizing primes them mentally for the task ahead.
Start with short timers+
For first-time users, especially young children, start with 1–2 minute timers for simple tasks. Success builds confidence. Gradually extend duration as your child gets comfortable with the concept of timed activities.
Use it consistently at the same times+
The power of Tokimo comes from habit formation. Use it at the same point in your daily routine — homework time after school, teeth brushing after dinner — and children will start self-initiating the timer on their own within weeks.
Review stats together on weekends+
Sit down with your child on Sunday evening to look at the week's statistics. Celebrate streaks, notice patterns, and set goals for the coming week. This turns data into a bonding ritual.
